Flag Dez Bryant for delay of game.
The flashy Cowboys receiver gave Giants rival Janoris Jenkins a piece of his mind late Thursday night/early Friday morning on Twitter, only to acknowledge hours later the fiery exchange was old news. Bryant had responded to a critical comment Jenkins made two months ago.
Bryant, whom Jenkins shut down in a memorable head-to-head matchup during the Giants’ second win over the Cowboys last season, targeted the outspoken ‘Jackrabbit’ in a tweet Friday morning, in which he already was looking ahead to their rematch to kick off the 2017 season.
“Bra they play cover 5 damn near the whole time… put his a– 1 on 1 the whole game… I will embarrass him… [Giants defensive coordinator Steve] Spagnuolo know,” Bryant wrote in a tweet he later deleted.
Bryant has significant ground to make up after Jenkins held him to two catches and 18 yards in two games last season. Jenkins also forced a fumble from Bryant late in the fourth quarter of that second game, which helped the Giants walk away with a 10-7 victory.
Jenkins showed little respect for Bryant’s playmaking ability when asked about their matchup in February.
“I played better than he played,” Jenkins said on 105.3 The Fan in the week leading up to the Super Bowl. “For real, though, to be honest, when you look at film and break down your opponents and the receivers that you’re facing, you notice what they like to do. Take away the slant and the dig, and when they get in 21 personnel and Dez is inside the number, you take away the corner post, he doesn’t have nothing else.”
Extending the Giants’ streak against the 2016 NFC East champions depends on it, beginning Sept. 10 in Dallas.
